Orthodontics is a dental specialty that involves treating teeth that are positioned improperly. This mostly involves malocclusions (also called bad bites). This happens when you bite down and your teeth do not line up correctly. Orthodontics also includes fixing crooked teeth. Orthodontists also study the facial bones and jaw, especially during a person’s development.
Orthodontics are mainly cosmetic procedures, but without a correct bite you could struggle to have a healthy mouth. Crooked teeth and teeth that do not line up correctly are great for hiding food and bacteria. Even more concerning, they are really hard to clean, allowing cavities to form. If not treated, you may struggle with other dental problems down the line.
Our main goal in orthodontics is to fix problems so our patients can have healthy mouths in the future. We close gaps in your teeth and make sure your teeth are lined up correctly. We also straighten up crooked teeth and mouths. This is also necessary to allow normal eating and clear speech.
The most common orthodontic treatment is braces, though we can also use headgear, plates, and much more. Sometimes we use more than one option to ensure a healthy mouth.
We want all of our patients to have a healthy smile they are proud to show off, and we are dedicated to making sure that happens!
